Project implementation in research, innovation and policy-related projects (publicly funded), in Europe, Central Asia and other relevant regions.
We train our local partners and counterparts to retrieve and communicate measured data, to store and apply them in the water information systems, and to safely carry out field work.
Our research focuses on optimizing precipitation sensors for use in cold environments, where maintenance access is often limited due to adverse climatic or road conditions. Additionally, we are advancing calibration techniques to improve the accuracy of measured data.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION OF OUR WORK
EWS for floods, droughts and mudflows allow for adequate response to potential disasters. Portolan assists in the establishment of monitoring infrastructure that is essential to understand the triggers of hydrological extreme events. We monitor upstream discharge, rainfall intensity, soil moisture and additional parameters that are key input for the authorities to decide when to issue a warning signal. We offer ready-to-use monitoring equipment and expertise, enabling rapid and effective deployment in areas affected by floods and droughts.
OUR PROJECTS
At Portolan, we cooperate with partners in water management, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, nature-based solutions or natural resources management to achieve our objectives. As a not-for-profit organisation, we shape projects combining technology, community engagement, and training. As such we aim to forge a sustainable path towards a future where water resources are protected, conserved, and allocated wisely.
